Areas We Serve | Shared Housing Across Northwest Indiana

Furnished house exterior for rooms for rent near South Holland, Illinois

Shared housing in Northwest Indiana starts with our homes in Hammond, Indiana. We house people from across Lake County and the wider Northwest Indiana region, and regularly from Chicago and its south suburbs.

Hammond sits at the top-left corner of Indiana, right on the Illinois state line. That position is the reason this works: most of Lake County is inside a fifteen-minute drive, and downtown Chicago is roughly twenty miles away by road or rail. People move into our homes without giving up the job, the clinic, the meeting or the family they already have somewhere else.

Below is what that means town by town.

Hammond, Indiana

Where our homes are. Hammond has Lake County’s densest concentration of health clinics, pharmacies, social service offices and veteran services, along with a South Shore Line station and local bus routes. If you need to live somewhere without a car in this county, Hammond is the practical choice. ZIP codes we cover include 46320, 46323 and 46324.

East Chicago, Indiana

About four miles east. Close enough that residents who came from East Chicago keep the same doctor, the same church and often the same job. The industrial corridor along the lakefront is a short drive, which matters for shift work.

Whiting, Indiana

About four miles north, on the lake. A small city with limited rental stock — when something does come up in Whiting it usually goes fast and rarely comes furnished. Hammond gives Whiting residents a nearby option without moving out of the area.

Munster, Indiana

About four miles south. Munster’s rental market skews expensive relative to the rest of the county, so people working in Munster frequently live elsewhere. Community Hospital is one of the area’s larger employers and it’s an easy drive from our homes.

Highland, Indiana

About five miles south-east. Mostly single-family housing with very little shared or room-by-room rental available, which is exactly the gap we fill for people who want to stay in that part of the county.

Griffith, Indiana

About eight miles south-east. Another town where affordable rooms are scarce and most listings are whole apartments requiring a full lease, deposit and credit check.

Gary, Indiana

About ten miles east. Gary has significant housing need and a thin supply of safe, maintained, furnished options. Our homes are a straightforward drive or bus ride from most of Gary, and we regularly take referrals from agencies working there.

Hobart, Indiana

About fifteen miles south-east, at the edge of our regular service area. Reachable, and worth a call if the alternative is nothing closer.

Chicago and the south suburbs

Roughly twenty miles from downtown Chicago. This is a common move: Chicago rents that have become impossible, traded for a furnished all-inclusive room in Indiana with the same job still reachable by the South Shore Line. Calumet City, Lansing, Burnham and the surrounding south suburbs are minutes away.
